Our School
Maitai School offers specialised programmes for students with a variety of special needs, intellectual and/or related disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorders between the ages of five and twenty-one.
As the only Special School in Nelson, Maitai School’s catchment area extends across the wider Nelson region. The school provides high quality teaching and learning programmes for students who are verified under the Ongoing and Reviewable Resourcing Scheme, using a holistic model that includes specialists, therapists, families / whanau and the local community. Students benefit from a wide range of learning opportunities in classrooms as well as in other educational settings.
Situated close to the central business district of Nelson, Maitai School enjoys the proximity of amenities that serve and support the school. Students benefit from a wide range of learning opportunities in classrooms as well as in other educational settings.
Community
Maitai School community includes the families and whanau, friends and benefactors of the students of the school; the staff, Group Special Education, volunteers and neighbouring community. Strategic and policy decisions are governed by a Board of Trustees.
