Using Skype
All of us in Room 1 have been using Skype and have been having video conferences most mornings with a class at Somerville School in Auckland. We are excited about being able to make friends and get to know people that live so far away. Most mornings our teacher, Aaron, hooks up his laptop so we are able to share our news and our learning with our new friends. It is pretty cool being able to see what others are doing and to join in with them.

Interactive SMARTBoard
Recently Room 4 had a brand new, dual touch interactive SMARTBoard installed in the classroom. We use it all the time for all subjects and sometimes get to play games on it just for fun!
Our teacher says the interactive electronic whiteboard is a colourful and attractive tool in the classroom and it promotes student engagement on many levels. It appeals to our different learning styles. Some of us are tactile learners and we benefit from touching, manipulating objects and marking on the board. Some of us who are audio learners love the way we can have sound combined with visual representations of words and objects. Our visuals, photos and drawings are linked to songs, videos and websites. This means we can do more by ourselves and makes us want to work even harder.
In our class the Smart Board is used every day. Our timetables are displayed on the board so we know what is happening and can choose what we want to do next.
One of the things our teacher really likes about SMARTBoards is the huge variety of resources available and shared on internet platforms, which he can adapt for us.
